American Friends fans had a bit of a freak out when they heard the news – iconic sitcom ‘Friends’ wasn’t set to remain on Netflix US after 2018. Luckily for them, but not so much Netflix’s bank account, the show will remain through 2019 – but at a cost.
Reports have come in that Netflix paid between $95 million and $109 million to keep the show for one more year. After that, WarnerMEdia (owner of Friends) will launch a streaming service of its own so it’s unclear what will happen to it after then.
Netflix has been paying a reported $40 million each year since 2015 for the rights to air the show.
‘Friends’ is available to stream on Stan in Australia, but fans in America can only get their fix on Netflix (or, you know, illegally downloaded).
