For months, rumours and whispers have swirled around a potential bout between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, fuelled in the most part by a flurry of words, challenges and insults exchanged between the two. Now it seems that fans are going to get the fight they hoped for.
McGregor has announced that he has signed his side of a deal for a fight with Mayweather, brokered by the UFC president Dana White. White confirmed that negotiations for a fight have been finalised on the McGregor side and that he is hoping to begin with Mayweather’s team shortly.

If the fight does go ahead, it is almost certain to be a spectacle. Mayweather, now 40 years old, retired in 2015 but has said that he’d make an exception for McGregor. McGregor, who is 28 years old, is a mixed martial arts champion but has never professionally boxed. Despite McGregor’s lack of boxing experience, Mayweather stated that he believes the younger fighter might be able to beat him.
