2017 is shaping up to be the Year of Kendrick Lamar.

The rapper’s fourth studio album ‘DAMN.’ was released on 14 April and was immediately embraced by fans and praised by critics. Lamar’s hard work on the record seems to have paid off:A’DAMN.’ has become the first album released in 2017 to achieve the platinum certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Interscope Records, the label Lamar is signed to, announced the certification on Twitter today.

A platinum certification means that an album has reached 1,000,000 individual sales. It took less than a month for ‘DAMN.’ to reach that goal.

The rapper has been building hype since early this year when he released the surprise single ‘The Heart Part 4’, containing a mysterious lyrical message telling fans to be ready for 7 April. When that date came, Lamar announced a brand new album and soon after that another single,A‘Humble’, was released.

‘Humble’ quickly rose to the top of the charts before the hotly-anticipated ‘DAMN.’ was dropped the day before Lamar took to the stage at Coachella last month.
